![]() They brought the meats out on a wooden cutting board. First off we waited about 39 minutes for our meats and when we did receive our meats they were cold. If you are planning an event, go elsewhere. From A to Z this was an embarrassing series of events, I will never set foot inside this establishment again. The last thing I will say, the management needs work Elias was unprepared and a poor leader. Additionally, they started emptying the tables in the middle of the event, dumping everything in a large trash can, as my quests looked on. They tried to set up our tables with dirty linen (huge food/drink stains), I was told "they didn't have anymore." The service was not any better, several of my party had to ask for drinks several times before they came and the way the "family style" is served is not well thought out. This room was so dirty I was still cleaning as quests were arriving. There were random hangers in the windows, the window sills were filthy and I had to wipe down table and furniture. When I asked the room to be mopped, I was told the room had already been clean this prompted me having to take the manager around and showing him the spots of spilled drinks where your shoes would stick to the ground. There were ribbons, plastic silverware, trash, food particles on the floor requiring a full sweep and mop. I arrived early to ensure the set-up was going well and to add some decor but I ended up having to clean the room myself. We had a small company anniversary dinner in the banquet room and the experience was terrible. We left feeling disappointed and taken advantage of. My husband & I both agreed that we will NOT be back. But it was not worth the hundreds of dollars that we paid for the dinner. I gave 2 stars because the meat was still very good. This was not the romantic dinner we were hoping for. We waited hours for all our meats to come and they sat us next to a massive party with loud screaming kids. ![]() Then they charged a mandatory 18% gratuity fee to our total bill (their were only 2 people in our party). We used to always use Groupon deals at Samba, with no problem. ![]() Also, they did not honor our Groupon because it was not purchased 4 hrs before seating. The restaurant was only half empty, but they were understaffed and it took forever to get a staff members attention. There were only 2 Samba girls dancing (when there used to be 6-8 girls) and we were automatically charged a $5 show fee (per person). The salad bar was messy and underwhelming. It took forever to get our meats & drinks. The service is not what it used to be, and I believe the new ownership is to blame. We came here tonight, it was our first time back since December 2019. My husband & I used to dine here all the time before the pandemic. I have been a loyal customer of Samba since 2013.

![]() Notice that Kotlin comes with several functions to convert types from smaller types to larger types and vice versa. If you want to convert an Int to a Long in Kotlin, you need to perform an explicit type conversation operation through the toLong() function, as below: // this code is valid in KotlinĪt the end of the assignment, number2 correctly stores the Long representation of the number1 value. This Kotlin snippet is invalid and would lead to a “Type mismatch: inferred type is Int but Long was expected” error. Val number42: Long = number1 // Type mismatch: inferred type is Int but Long was expected This means that an Int variable cannot be converted to a Long variable without an explicit cast or type conversion: // this code is invalid in Kotlin On the contrary, Kotlin does not support implicit type conversion from smaller to larger types. At the end of the assignment, number2 is a long type variable storing the long representation of the number1 value. During the assignment, Java performs an implicit type cast to convert number1 from an int to a long type. This Java snippet is valid and results in no errors. Long number2 = number1 // implicit type conversion performed For example, an int variable can be assigned to a long variable with no explicit casts: // this code is valid in Java In detail, Java supports implicit type conversion from smaller to larger types. Since most Kotlin developers are former Java developers or still use both technologies, it is worth pointing out the differences between the two languages when it comes to type casting. This is why you should know how to use them properly, what to expect from them, and how to prevent or handle errors when they occur. Consequently, an unexpected cast may lead to exceptions and fatal errors. Keep in mind that type casting is an error-prone operation and should not be performed lightheartedly. A larger type is a type that occupies more bytes in memory or represents a parent of the current type in an inheritance hierarchy. Similarly, converting a type to a larger type is called upcasting. ![]() A smaller type is a type that occupies fewer bytes in memory or represents a child of the current type in an inheritance hierarchy. An example of a type cast operation is the transformation of an integer into a string.Ĭonverting a type to a smaller type is called downcasting. Also, in some cases, it can be performed automatically behind the scenes by the interpreter or compiler. This generally happens through some operators or particular syntax. Type casting, also called type conversion, is the process of converting a variable from one data type to another. Implicit type casting with Kotlin smart casts.Explicit type casting with Kotlin cast operators. So, let’s dive into type casting in Kotlin and see everything you need to learn to master safe and unsafe type casts, and more. Mastering type casting in Kotlin takes time, but it plays such a crucial role in the language that every Kotlin developer should be able to employ it effectively. This is why Kotlin introduced two operators to equip you with everything you need to deal with type casting: the safe operator and the unsafe operator. But as you can imagine, this transformation operation is tricky and may fail or lead to unexpected results. ![]() Type casting gives the ability to convert a particular type into a smaller or larger type. To enable developers to achieve this goal, these programming languages introduced the concept of type casting. Let’s have a look at everything you need to know to start dealing with safe and unsafe Kotlin type casting like a pro.Īn indispensable feature of object-oriented programming languages is the ability to convert one type to another. Precise sizing can be achieved with curly brackets, otherwise the free space is equally split between the plot areas of subplots. The macro is the easiest way to define complex layouts, using Julia's multidimensional Array construction as the basis for a custom layout syntax. Titles and labels can be easily added: plot(rand(100,4), layout = 4, label=, More complex grid layouts can be created with the grid(.) constructor: plot(rand(100, 4), layout = grid(4, 1, heights=)) Pass a tuple to layout to create a grid of that size: # create a 4x1 grid, and map each of the 4 series to one of the subplots Pass an integer to layout to allow it to automatically compute a grid size for that many subplots: # create a 2x2 grid, and map each of the 4 series to one of the subplots (For example: a line or a set of markers) Series: One distinct visualization of data.Plot Area: The part of a subplot where the data is shown.Axis: One axis of a subplot, containing axis guide (label), tick labels, and tick marks.Subplot: One subplot, containing a title, axes, colorbar, legend, and plot area. ![]() It's helpful at this point to review terminology: Just set the layout keyword in a call to plot(.) Care has been taken to keep the framework flexible and generic, so that backends need only support the ability to precisely define the absolute position of a subplot, and they get the full power of nesting, plot area alignment, and more. As of v0.7.0, Plots has taken control of subplot positioning, allowing complex, nested grids of subplots and components. ![]() A better way then few of us have as routine to check our hardware. In an interview with Vogue Business, Patagonia's Vice President of product impact and innovation, Matt Dwyer, agrees that there is a lot of greenwashing in fashion and that recycled polyester is not a perfect solution. Patagonia, a well-known outdoor clothing brand, mentioned that synthetic textiles are needed in technical apparel because they perform better. ![]() "They're not willing to change their dirty habits, so they're trying to greenwash their way out of this crisis," -Urska Trunk, campaign manager at the Changing Markets Foundation. Another research by The Ellen Macarthur Foundation points out that "less than 1% of the material used to produce clothing is recycled into new clothing". The vast majority of recycled polyester in the textile sector comes not from recycled garments but from polyethene terephthalate (PET) bottles. ![]() Yet despite a mountain of clothes being thrown away every year, there is still a lack of investment in scaling fibre-to-fibre recycling technology. Inditex Group, owner of Zara, is among a handful of retailers reportedly investing €3 million in funding tech innovations to explore textile recycling solutions, including MIT - Spain Inditex Circularity Seed Fund - although this represents just 0.08% of the company's 2019 net profit.įurthermore, most brands try to solve the fossil fashion problem by replacing virgin polyester with downcycled single-use plastic bottles - a false solution as this is a one-way street to landfill or incineration. Globally, about one garbage truck of clothes ends up in a landfill every second. Brands often use these fibres (even) in their recycled collections, which they tout as "sustainable" and "responsible." While some brands commit to no longer using virgin polyester fibres, they make no such commitments regarding synthetic fibres in general. The solution is not to replace one type of fibre with another, but to radically slow down fashion - a main cause of untenable volumes of waste, harmful microfibers, and widespread pollution.Īccording to experts, the use of mixed synthetic fibres has the same impact on the environment as the use of pure synthetic fibres. While all textile materials are associated with negative environmental and social impacts, today's unsustainable fast fashion business model is deeply rooted in the fashion industry's fast-growing reliance on synthetic fibres. ![]() FAST FASHION AND THE RISE OF THE PLASTIC & POLYESTER CRISIS Experts say these fibres have about the same impact on the environment as new synthetic fibres. Further, concerns about the use of synthetic fibres extend to their recycled versions, which are becoming more common in brands that position themselves as sustainable. H&M and Zalando were also found to have more, or almost as much, synthetics in their 'sustainable' collections as their main collections. In addition, the report also demonstrates that the use of rampant greenwashing and misleading practises are rife - 91% of green claims made by H&M, ASOS and M&S were found to be unsubstantiated. The analysis of 50 major fashion brands - from high street to luxury - including Zara, H&M, Burberry and Louis Vuitton, shows that some renowned brands score very poorly on their sustainability commitment and lack of transparency. The report shows how the industry still depends on synthetic fibres made from fossil fuels, leading to plastic pollution and contributing to the climate crisis - with some brands saying it is inevitable. |
